Film review - Day Shift (vampire movie)

Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco star in "Day Shift," a vampire hunting movie. The story follows a blue collar father who wants to provide a comfortable life for his daughter. However, his job as a pool cleaner in San Fernando Valley is just a façade for his true source of income: hunting and killing vampires for the International Union of Vampire Hunters.

Although the premise sounds great, can J.J. Perry make it work?

The opening scene in "Day Shift" is a crazy action sequence with Jamie Foxx shotgun blasting the hell out of an old lady who turns out to be a vampire, which then becomes this nuts fight sequence between the two of them that is such a blast. I felt that the movie had a lot of fun using this type of ragdoll Physics in its action sequences, which makes them pop in an action scene that many other Netflix action movies or action blockbusters don't. It's hard not to think of the old adage about how "action speaks louder than words" when watching a scene like this, and while there is certainly some truth to that, I think part of the reason "Day Shift" is so effective is because it knows how to use both action and dialogue to further the plot and character development. Jamie Foxx's role as the vampire is finally defeated and he engages in a humorous exchange with his partner about how "he thought she was going to transform into a bat" or something. It is moments like these that elevate "Day Shift," over other movies of the same genre.

Day Shift may be the worst movie ever made. It's obvious what they were trying but it was so disappointing. It is lacking in acting ability, dialogue, and plot. However, it was still enjoyable. Perhaps it's because of my love for vampire movies or because I enjoy bad movies. Day Shift was enjoyable. It's not a great flick, but it's fun. And really, that's all I ask from a movie like this.

Day Shift was an interesting movie. On one hand, there is a Day Shift (2022) lot of fun action and some fun characters (the brothers and Seth), but on the other hand the villain was horrible and there are a lot of mediocre characters. It appeared that there were some scenes that were not shown. Bud's neighbor behaves like she's a friend, even though she only had 3 minutes of screentime before the final scene. It seems that this helps the stronger characters shine more. Overall, the movie is enjoyable, but it could have been even better.

Snoop Dogg almost got lost in my thoughts. He is great in Day Shift. He makes the movie worthwhile. His character is funny and he has great lines. More importantly, he just feels so natural in the part. It's as if he was made for the role.
